Super Atmospheric Cycle

This cycle operates only in postive pressure and utilises an air steam mixture over 3 or 4 pulses to effect air removal from the chamber free space.

This type of cycle is not at all effective in removing air and allowing steam penetration into the inside of hollow or complex instruments subsequently, the sterilisation of this type of instrument is never guaranteed because the sterilisers that operate in super atmospheric cycles do not have a vacuum pump and therefore cannot effectively remove air from the inside of cannulated instruments.

Downward displacement/gravity displacement sterilisers, N class benchtop sterilisers and some S class benchtop sterilisers all work in positive pressure and are all super atmospheric cycles.

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR STERILISING HOLLOW OR COMPLEX INSTRUMENTS.
